At this point, kids and parents should be familiar with the 20 books (see previous post) and kids should begin reading books off the list. It's OK to listen to the books, read them independently, or read with family members. We want them to enjoy the books but also read to remember key details that will help them at the Battle.
When teams are finalized, each child will want to coordinate with his/her team members to make sure that the team covers the entire list by May. For now, it's OK to start with any book that seems appealing.

What is it? The Battle of the Books is a book based trivia tournament in which teams will answer questions from a given list of 20 novels. Points are awarded for correctly answered questions. The books are chosen from a number of different categories, and range in level of difficulty. Students need not read all the books, however each book should be read by at least one member of the team.
Who is it for? Students in roughly grades 3 8 (grade 8 max.) Younger participants at parental discretion, but must be able to contribute adequately to a team.
For our younger elementary children, there will be a mini battle / activity for them, with books more suited to their level. More information to follow.
